Baoding Xinhua Bookstore (Interior Design Store) by Yi Chen
2016 - 2017, Golden A' Interior Space and Exhibition Design Award Winner
Inspiration
Our primary inspiration and design principle derive from our observation and retrospection on the status quo of the society as a whole. How to design a habitat that invite the audience's soul and spirit to take a rest? This lies at the core of our design. We use the simplest and most natural design to connect people and books in various space scenarios.
Creativity
The biggest difference is in the expression of the human touch. How to design a habitat that invite the audience's soul and spirit to take a rest? This lies at the core of our design. We use the simplest and most natural design to connect people and books in various space scenarios, realize co-existence and harmony through a simple, tranquil, humble and low profile design language and space expression, and transform the space into an ecosystem with its unique atmosphere.
Design Challenges
Xinhua Bookstore, the most well-known book store in China, was established in 1937. As a most decent and old-fashioned book store, it leaves a stereotyped impression on the public that it belongs to the 70s to 80s of the last century with strong political tint. How to breaking down its old and conservative image and reconstructing the brand and to make it align with the pace of the society we now live in is our challenge. We make the biggest difference is in the expression of the human touch.
Production Technology
use the simplest and most natural materials, such as wood, cement floor.
