Jungle (Glass Vase) by Sini Majuri
2018 - 2019, Golden A' Furniture, Decorative Items and Homeware Design Award Winner
The premise of the glass vase collection is to create objects that gain their value from the quality and design. The origin of the creative process extends to a moment when a wave rolled upon the shore. The sound was soft yet intense. These contrasts in nature and the way they create harmony is desired to be captured in the Jungle collection: The serenity and wildness of the water and trees.
Jungle collection combines 3D-design with old glass blowing techniques. The collection has 3 shapes that are based in the Scandinavian traditions: tall, oval and wide. Simple shapes reflect the serenity of the medium, while being weightless and strong at the same time.
Design Challenges
How to create an interior design object that has it's own persona and soul - yet as a collection of uniform shapes that work as individuals and also as a group. My challenge has also been to create a illusion of lightness by using extremely heavy and thick glass. How to resonate nature with the medium and capture the movement of water and old oak treetops into the pieces.
Production Technology
Mouth blown glass, metal oxides, glass colors & 3D designed shapes. When glass is blown it is 1000 decrees celcius hot and alive until it is frozen into it's final shape. Each shape has organic motion that comes from the movement of the material.
